The fact is that AV is more a part of IT today than it ever has been. Gone are the days where AV was an afterthought that simply involved speakers, cameras and microphones added to a room.
Internal AV specialists or contractors exist to assess the needs of the end users and correctly design systems that deliver performance. They ensure the system can be managed, the users supported and the investment protected. Professional AV takes years to decades of both formal training, certifications and on site system experience to master the skill set required for meeting room technologies that are rapidly changing.
There certainly are crossover technologies, however at the end of the day, everyone has their specialty.
